Scenario

It follows a struggling high school heavy metal band made up of outcasts who use the town’s sudden interest in the occult to build a reputation as a satanic metal band, until a strange series of events sparks a witch hunt that lead back to them. Hysteria by Def Lepard, Heaven’s on fire by KISS, Speaking in tongues by Meatloaf, Can I play with madness by Iron Maiden, Die young by Black Sabbath, Mother by Danzig, It’s late by Queen and Dance Macabre by Ghost .Hysteria! It is a thriller/horror set in small town America in the 1980s and centers around the mysterious death of a teenager and the panic that spreads over rumors of his connection to a high school metal band and their cult satanic.&#39 Wink to ’80s.

But then again, they’re teenagers

slashers as well as high school drama, so I went into it expecting to be bombarded with the long list of clichés built into both genres. Instead, I found the characters so well developed and the dialogue so well written that I was able to understand the narrative without feeling like it was all completely funny. Any qualms I had with this stem from the fact that teenagers (and their decision-making) can be frustrating as hell.

It’s a very well-balanced cocktail of crime-mystery and paranormal horror

The power of religious and social prejudice on the community forms a great driving force behind the narrative, but overall, hysteria! The show reveals its secrets gradually so that we find out what’s going on long before the main characters (rather than during a tell-all twist in the final episode), but not before we’re left guessing who will take what drastic measures to further their own agenda. For those fans of all things 80s and especially its heavy music scene, you are sure to enjoy the soundtrack, which includes a host of artists such as Iron Maiden, Kiss, Mötley Crüe and Alice Cooper.

Hysteria! It demonstrates the power of suggestion during the satanic panic of the 1980s and exposes us to the opposing forces that seek to either unite a community or tear it apart. Either way, it’s nice to see high schoolers, weirdos, and nerds come together, if only briefly, as they salute Satan around a pentagram by candlelight..
